a short Field Report : Supersonic SoundFest 2008 in Surabaya

It’s been a while since I attended the last similar gigs in my city . It’s very nice to know that there are lot of new bands/artists growing in the scene within these years (2008 – 2009). Meeting a lot of old friends from the scene was very delightful , because I just don’t want to lose contact with them. I could feel that bunch of fresh and creative ideas were coming when I met them.

So here it is , the field report on the gig that i just attended tonight (26/12/08) which was titled ‘Supersonic SoundFest 2008′. SSF is known to be the first national shoegazer bands’ gathering and tour which is held from 18/12/08 to 28/12/08 in each different city. (jakarta – bandung – surabaya – jogjakarta)

I came late to the gig which had already started at 18.30 , and I just arrived there at 20.00 (because I had to wait for Boncu to pick me up to the gig). And We just missed the opening act ! (which was performed by Sharesprings from jakarta) By the time I got there , I met Anton (from Others) , Mbeng (from Friday) and many other friends. They told me that Velvet Heaven were about to perform. I rushed straight into the venue in order not to miss their performance. They opened their act by performing their single titled ‘Delirium’. During their perfomance of their 3rd song , it started raining ! Ignoring the rain , they just kept playing until the end of the song which caused their guitars/effects to be real wet! After velvet heaven’s performance , the event was stopped for 30 – 45 minutes until the rain stopped. And even so , they decided to move the stage to the indoor part! ^_^

In the next 10-15 minutes , we got Jelly Belly on the stage ! They performed 3 songs , the most memorable song was their last song which is the song from Slowdive titled Alison ! yay ,, it’s time to sing along.. they played it very very well.. (it was almost even better than the original one! ) For the next performance , we got Mellon Yellow ! They performed 2 of their singles (if im not mistaken) which are Teacher Novel and Kevin. Nothing more to say bout their performance but giving TWO THUMBS UP for them ! they were so fckin awesome. admit it. I missed the next performance because I had to eat some meals with my big bro and Boncu at Klampis. (we finally had fried rice anyway)

Back to the venue (rotten apple) , OTHERS were already performing. They’re one of the most well-known postrock-ish band from Surabaya. You should check their myspace , these guys are fuckin awesome too I’d say that their performance was quite stunning ! it reminds me of God is astronaut , Laura , and other similar bands.. you guys rock! the last performance that I saw (because i had to go home) was Lorelei ! Who doesn’t know about this band! If you do , please make sure that you don’t come from the past . LOL. They (or he actually?) performed 3 of their singles which are I know you’ll die soon , Life extension and the other one which I don’t quite remember Lorelei is great I could feel the ambience from their songs.. quite stunning too! Ok , that’s all for tonight (did I miss Sarin? ) I decided to go home
